In Britain we clearly love our furry four legged friends, so at one of South Derbyshire’s most popular parks, a day has been specially made for them.

Bark in the Park will entertain families with fun dog shows, games and live entertainment.

The event is being held in Swadlincote's Eureka Park from noon to 4pm on Sunday, August 13, where there will be representatives from local veterinary practices and pet stores on hand to offer expert advice on caring for animals.

The free event has been organised by South Derbyshire District Council with the Burton-based RSPCA Hillfield Animal home, which also has a charity shop outlet in Swadlincote. Money raised on the day will go to the RSPCA's Burton and district branch.

Councillor Jim Hewlett, chairman of housing and community services at the district council, said: "This fun packed day has been designed with the whole family in mind – including pets.

"We know there are hundreds of people who regularly enjoy walking their dogs and this is a chance for them to come together in the beautiful surroundings of Eureka Park, meet new people and enjoy themselves."

More information about the day is available by calling community engagement officer (Eureka Park) Charlotte Brown on 01283 228739 or the RSPCA's Alison Forrest on 07739 794865.
