Burgers and bangers are on the menu for young motorbike enthusiasts from across Burton - at a bikers-only barbecue designed to promote road safety.

The evening's activities are aimed at bikers between the ages of 16 and 25, following statistics showing that motorcyclists account for 32 per cent of all those killed or seriously injured on Staffordshire roads, despite only accounting for 0.5 per cent of road users.

The free event is being held on Wednesday, August 23, at the LDC training centre, in Falcon Close, Burton.

Information will be given on compulsory basic training, advice on what equipment to wear, how to maintain the vehicles and security advice.

Helen Fisher, the cabinet support member for highways and transport at Staffordshire County Council, said: "Wednesday's young biker barbecue event gives younger motorcyclists the opportunity to find out more about how to stay safe and improve their skills in an informal setting.

"Young riders unfortunately make up a disproportionate amount of casualties on roads nationally and our road safety team is making every effort to reduce that number.

"I'm sure all who attend will get a lot out of the event, having fun, gaining confidence and improving their own safety."

All riders who go to the event will receive a free burger and a drink, and the event will begin at 6pm on Wednesday, August 23 running until 9pm.
