Eager photographers from across Burton and Swadlincote are being invited to try their arm at having their pieces displayed in an exhibition.

The Burton Photographic Society is inviting keen snappers, both young and old, to submit their best photographs in the annual open competition which begins on Thursday, September 14.

There is no fee to enter the competition, which is open for the rest of September and until Monday, October 9.

To enter, you must be an amateur photographer and have no affiliated to any camera clubs from Burton or the surrounding areas.

People have to print off what they think are their best pictures and drop them in to Chris Goodhead Photographic store in the Market Place in Burton, Mulberry Beauty Salon, on the High Street in Repton or to DS Digital Solutions camera store in the Market Place in Ashby.

Every picture that is submitted will be displayed at Stretton Priory Centre on Saturday, November 18, and Sunday, November 19.

Prizes will be decided and handed to the best submitted pictures on Saturday, November 18 at 2pm by the Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor Simon Gaskin.

The society meets up most Thursdays from September to May at the Stretton Priory Centre, on Church Road, and everyone is welcomed to go along.

To kick off the 2017 – 2018 Burton Photographic Society calendar, there will be a guest speaker at the weekly meetings, with Irene Froy, a highly celebrated photographer at tomorrow night's meeting on Thursday, August 14, starting at 7.30pm.

Anybody interested in entering the competition or attending the weekly sessions who is looking for further information can visit the website online at www.burtonps.co.uk or by calling 07951 963581.
