Gail Kim is a wrestler who sits atop of her industry and is known the world over but, despite the long list of accolades to her name, the UK and more importantly the Burton Mail will always enjoy a special place in her heart.

For those who do not know Gail currently wrestles for Global Force Wrestling, formerly known as TNA, and recently announced her decision to finally hang up her tights at the end of 2017.

In an exclusive interview the Mail she revealed all about her love for the UK and also reflected on the special place she holds in the history of the Burton Mail – being the first and only female wrestler to ever grace the front page of the daily paper.

She said: “It was so flattering to be featured on the front page of the Burton Mail and really means a lot to me. It also holds extra weight because I am married to someone from the UK, so for them to see me on the front page was extra special and will always be something I remember.

“In terms of the UK in general, it was always my favourite time of year when I knew I was heading over to wrestler in front of the UK fans. I can only describe them as being off the hook and helping to create a magical atmosphere for me and the other wrestlers.

“I loved heading over to the UK and will miss it greatly. I would have loved to have had my final match in the UK.”

Gail Kim is best known for her role in helping the then named TNA wrestling become known across the globe for its excellent portrayal of women’s wrestling and characters.

She spoke of her pride of being part of such an important time for the industry and delight at the impact it is now having in other promotions.

“I am very proud of all that I have accomplished and everything I have done – especially my work with a group of very talented women that helped put us and our company on the map. I have no regrets and I am so proud of everything that I have accomplished. To see similar things not being continued with Global Force Wrestling, as well as other promotions, is a great feeling.

“The pride that I feel is one of the reasons that I have decided to step away from the ring. I always said if I could not work to the best of my ability then I would step away and this is what I am doing. But I will not be leaving the wrestling business. I plan to continue to play a major role in it well into the future.”

The multi-time champion was quick to single out two competitors who have played a vital part in her career.

“Firstly it would be (former WWE superstar) Molly Holly. She helped me so much and I was heavily influenced by her work. Secondly I would have to say Kurt Angle. He was never selfish, always worked hard and would help you in any way he could.”

As the final bell looks set to be rung on the storied career of Gail Kim, fans should make sure they catch a glimpse of her in action while they still can.

Fans of Gail can still catch her in action alongside a host of other stars every Friday at 9pm on Impact on Spike UK.
