A cake sale in Burton raising money for a unit for adults with life-limiting illnesses has raised more than £600.

Jodie Lear, of Tutbury Road, in Tutbury, raised £666 with a cake sale at Coopers Square shopping centre which also included a tombola and balloon animals.

It is part of the 24-year-old's mission to raise £10,000 for a unit for people aged 18 and older at the Donna Louise Children's Hospice in a year.

Jodie Lear held a cake sale in Coopers Square Shopping Centre for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice in memory of her brother Jake

Jodie has set herself a year full of challenges and events to raise the money in memory of her brother Jake, who was diagnosed with a terminal disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle wasting illness which mostly affects boys, when he was just seven.

He died on February 21, 2015, at the age of 19, and always said he would build the unit for the hospice if he could as it meant so much to him.

So far the challenges and events Jodie has completed to raise money have included a sky dive, a 10k run, "wolf runs" which are 10k obstacle courses, and a wine and cheese evening.

Her next challenge will be another 10k "wolf run" on September 2 and then she will taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing Mount Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike in 24 hours, on September 9.
