Travellers leave Branston Golf and County Club car park

The travellers who were camping on Branston Golf and County Club car park have left after being threatened by a court order by staff.

Management at the venue say they have increased security on the gates of the premises and warn any other trespassers that they are unwelcome on the site.

Staff say the travellers have left a “mess” which they are cleaning at this moment in time.

Complaints watchdog looks into death of man following armed robbery at Ashby Co-op

A police watchdog has begun a formal investigation into the death of a man suspected of being involved in an armed robbery who died two days after he was detained by members of the public.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has confirmed it is to conduct an inquiry into the death of Shane Bryant, who fell ill in Ashby, on Thursday, July 15.

Thieves who a digger to ram-raid a ATM also threw metal bar at police

The digger used to ram-raid the cash machine at Nisa in Hatton was stolen from Tutbury. One of the thieves also threw a metal bar at a police officers as they were escaping. Read the full story here.

YMCA pays tribute to Francis Lovelock who was found dead at his home in Stretton

Burton YMCA has described Francis Lovelock as a “kind and generous man” after he volunteered for the charity last year. Mr Lovelock’s death is being treated as suspicious after he was found with a “blunt” head injury at his home.

There are currently two caravans parked up in the car park

Travellers have set up camp in the car park at Branston Golf and Country Club. The group are reported to have arrived at the site at 1pm and were swiftly reported to police. There are currently two caravans parked up on the site.

A spokesperson for Branston Golf and Country Club said: “They arrived at about 1pm and we’re making every possible move to get them shifted as soon as possible. The police have been involved and we’ve blocked the entrance to anybody entering the site.”

Hatton supermarket is targeted in ram-raid as cash machine is stolen

Thieves have pulled the cash machine from the wall using a digger - the second incident in the area in two days. It is not currently known if the two incidents are linked. Read the full story here.

Commuters heading on the trains this morning are warned to expect some delays due to signalling problems. There are delays of up to 10 minutes on the London Midland train between Lichfield Trent Valley and Lichfield City.
