Fish found dead in a Hatton pool

Dozens of dead fish have been spotted floating in a pool in South Derbyshire, almost a year after more than 15,000 were killed following a sewage leak into the River Trent.

Footage showing the scale of the loss at a pool in Hatton was taken by Dave Throup, a manager from the Environment Agency, who is urging people to keep an eye out for fish in distress following his discovery.

Repairs to St Peter's Bridge are 'absolutely necessary' as it is currently structurally unsafe

A councillor who campaigned for vital funding to repair one of Burton’s busiest bridges has spoken about the need for essential works which will close the major route for three months.

Staffordshire county councillor Conor Wileman has been campaigning on behalf of the town to secure millions of pounds needed to repair “life-expired” corroded bearings on St Peter’s Bridge, in Stapenhill, since January.

The chairman of the Ivanhoe Archery Club, in Ashby, spoke out after a fire was started overnight inside one of its storage containers in Ashby.

Accident on the A38 northbound affecting traffic in Findern

Commuters travelling on the A38 northbound are being advised to seek alternative routes following an accident which is holding up traffic.

The A38 at Mickleover is blocked on the northbound carriageway, around the A516.

The accident involves a car and a lorry,the latter of which is blocking the road.

There are reports of heavy traffic to Findern, according to traffic and travel information website Inrix.

Alternative routes to avoid gridlock caused by St Peter's Bridge closure

The news of a three month closure to one of Burton’s busiest bridges has caused outrage and concern among residents who use it daily to go about their business.

Last week it was revealed that St Peter’s Bridge, in Stapenhill, would close for three months to replace “life expired” bearings, which if left to deteriorate, would result in a weight limit being introduced on the bridge.

A popular gym in Swadlincote is up for sale as its owner of 14 years hope to retire. Zeus Gym, in Ernest Hall Way, which has 500 members on its books, is being marketed at £375,000 and will be sold as a going concern.

The business is reluctantly being sold as the current owner, John Walker, wishes to retire and travel after 14 years at the helm.

Heavy delays on the M1 after caravan accident

There is heavy traffic on the M1 following an accident involving a car towing a caravan.

The accident on the M1 southbound on the Junction 26, the A610 for Nottingham. Traffic monitoring website Inrix has confirmed that one lane, of the four is closed and there is heavy traffic along the road.

Willington man threatened to murder his ex-girlfriend and burn down her house

A 28-year-old man who made sinister threats to his ex-girlfriend and her family because he was angry, has appeared in court.

Marcus Wright, of Twyford Road, Willington, sent threatening messages on social media to his former partner before going to her father’s house in Princess Street, Burton, and smashing a front window.

In one message, Wright told his victim that his “sole purpose in life was to snap your neck for real”.

However, there seems to be a bit of a divide over how to pronounce the budget store’s name, with arguments between those who call it “Pr-eye-mark” and those who call it “Pree-mark”.

Police appeal witnesses to Swadlincote accident between BMW and motorbike

Police are appealing for information about a collision between a BMW car and a motorbike in Swadlincote.

The collision happened on Thursday, August 10, and now Derbyshire police want anyone who may have seen it to come forward.

The BMW allegedly drove along Midway Road, Eureka Road, onto the A511, back along Midway Road before colliding with a motorbike in Vicarage Road, Swadlincote.

Teenage boy, 16, goes missing from Derbyshire home

Police are searching for a teenager who has gone missing from his home in Derbyshire. Thomas Ashmore-Barbosa was last seen at a property in Top Road, Calow a small village near Chesterfield on the morning of Saturday, August.

Derbyshire Police have said that they are growing concerned for the boy’s welfare and have appealed for anyone with information on his whereabouts to get in touch.

Protest to be held at Burton railway station over increasing fare prices

A protest is due to be held at Burton railway station this afternoon, Tuesday, August 15, over the rising prices of rail fares.

It comes as the Office for National Statistics today announced that rail fares will by raising by up to 3.6 per cent in the new year.

Motorists warned of closures as part of £500,000 scheme in Barton under Needwood

Drivers heading to Barton under Needwood are being warned about road closures as work starts to repair a road dubbed the worst in Britain.

Regular users of the B5016 Station Road will already have noticed the beginning of five weeks of work to overhaul the pothole-riddled road, which has been previously described as being “moon-like”. Now they will experience some road closures between 7.30pm and 6am as work starts on resurfacing.

One lane has been closed on the M1 northbound following a broken down car.

The closure is between junction 28 and 29 near Alfreton and Mansfield.

It has been reported that traffic is coping well with the closure.

You need to see this shocking footage

Shocking CCTV footage of a gang stealing a cash machine from a supermarket in Hatton has been released by police.

The footage shows the gang arrive with a car, a 4x4 towing a trailer and a digger-type machine on Thursday, August 3.

They then use the digger to smash their way into the Nisa shop and drag the cash machine from the wall, before loading it into the trailer and driving off; accompanied by the car.

Commuters travelling through Overseal should expect some delays this morning.

There is heavy traffic along the A444, Burton Road in both directions due to roadworks in the area. Affected roads include the B5004 Woodville Road and Lullington Road.

The earlier accident that was causing delays on the M42, between Burton and Tamworth has now been cleared.

The accident between Junction 11, Burton and Junction 10, for the A5 to Tamworth was causing slow traffic for commuters, but traffic monitoring website Inrix has confirmed that traffic has returned to normal.

John Port School, in Etwall, could be welcoming an extra 500 pupils through its doors as the county council makes plans to tackle the increasing number of homes in the area.

Derbyshire’s largest secondary school could see the expansion because of the government’s expectations of a big increase in the number of children applying for places in schools across the county.
