News of Super Shakes closing has prompted readers to call for more to be done to help independent businesses in the town

News that a milkshake bar is closing in Burton has prompted a huge response from Burton Mail readers saddened that an independent business will be closing.

Super Shakes, in Station Street, has announced its decision to close, blaming a lack of shoppers in town for its decision. The news has prompted readers to call for more to be done to help independent small businesses in the town.

Burton store remains open as men's retailer Greenwoods goes into administration

A menswear firm, which has been part of Britain’s high streets for more than 150 years, has gone into administration.

It was announced that Greenwoods Menswear and Suit Hire, which has stores around the UK including Burton, had appointed administrators on September 6.

Hobbycraft in Burton has been closed following incident at the distribution centre

A number of staff members who work at a busy Burton warehouse have received treatment for minor injuries after an incident this morning.

Employees at Hobbycraft Distribution Centre, on Centrum 100, were sent home following the incident which happened this morning and the site has remained closed all day for safety checks.

Delays on the M1 due to broken down vehicle

Drivers heading on the M1 are warned of a broken down vehicle causing delays.

There are delays on the northbound carriageway of the M1 in Leicestershire at J23A A42 and A453. One lane has been closed of three and there is slow moving traffic in the area.

Woman dies after crash in Swadlincote

An elderly woman who was riding a mobility scooter has died after a crash involving a car.

Police said the 93-year-old woman was in Alexandra Road in Swadlincote, on Friday afternoon when she was caught in a “collision with a car”.

The woman was taken to the Royal Derby after the incident at 1.30pm, but she died in hospital yesterday.

Cloudy and wet day ahead in Burton and South Derbyshire

Good morning

Do not forget those umbrellas today as it is set to be a wet one. Forecasters have predicted a cloudy start to the day but by lunchtime there will be heavy rain showers which will continue in to the afternoon. Temperatures today will reach highs of 15C but will feel cooler due to the wind.
