A lorry and a tanker have been involved in a collision in Burton heading towards the A38 at Clay Mills.

The white lorry appeared to have collided with the back of the tanker as they were both heading towards the Clay Mills junction of the A38.

The drivers of the two vehicles appeared to be unhurt, a witness who passed the scene said, as they were spotted swapping details after the crash at around 8am today, Monday, May 21.

The white truck has some damage to the front.

The incident has caused traffic to back up past the Pirelli Stadium in Burton.

One driver who passed the scene said: "Thankfully both drivers looked all right as they were exchanging details. One of them was standing by the side of the road and was on the phone, perhaps arranging to get the lorry recovered. The white truck has damage at the front.

Queueing traffic has being reported on the A38 this morning

"The traffic was obviously at a standstill, right around the roundabout near the car dealership and down Derby Road, all the way to the roundabout at the Pirelli Stadium."

Traffic was also back up on the opposite side the the A38 from Clay Mills towards Willington.

Derby Road now cleared

The accident on Derby Road in Burton has now been cleared and traffic has returned to normal.

The collision happened just before 8am and no one is believed to have been injured in the incident.

The vehicles had been left in a nearby layby and have now both been recovered.

Traffic affected by A50 crash

Traffic and travel information site Inrix has reported the delays on the A38 northbound have been affected the earlier crash on the A50.

Two vehicles are believed to have been involved in an accident on the carriageway between the Toyota Island and Swarkestone Road.

One lane has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident and both drivers are being cared for by paramedics.

Witness tells of tailbacks on the A50 after crash

A witness who passed the A50 accident said: “Traffic on the opposite carriageway of the A50, heading southbound towards Toyota Island, had slowed to a crawl as it passed alongside the scene of the accident. There was stationary traffic on the northbound carriageway queuing back past the Toyota Island on the A50 and up the slip lane to the island.”

No reports of injuries in Burton crash

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said:

Our officers were called to a collision between a lorry and a white Mercedes box van just before 8am.

We’ve had no reports of injuries and both drivers have exchanged details.

The vehicles have been moved to the layby and are currently awaiting recovery.

Traffic now flowing after accident on Derby Road

Traffic heading out of Burton along Derby Road towards the A38 is now flowing again.

It appears the tanker and the lorry which were involved in a minor accident at around 8am have now moved.

Traffic had been backing up into Burton after the crash, but a witness has reported it was flowing again from 8.30am onwards.

Delays caused by accident in Burton

The delays on the A38 are believed to have been caused by an accident on the A5121 Derby Road.

Traffic and travel information site Inrix has reported there is heavier traffic than normal, especially close to Meadow Lane.

Traffic is backing up to Junction 5 for the A516 Derby Road.

Accident on the A50 too

There has also been an incident on the A38.

Highways England have said there are currently around 90-minute delays on the A50 following an accident this morning.

The accident is said to have involved two cars.

Traffic was also backing up on the A38 from Willington towards the Clay Mills turning during rush-hour, although it is not known if this was connected to the lorry and tanker accident. It happened at around 8am today, Monday, May 21.
