An accident has caused major tailbacks on the A38 southbound.

According to traffic information company Inrix, the incident happened between Coxbench Road and the B6179 Alfreton Road near Little Eaton Island.

The road was partially blocked and traffic was slow.

Police release statement

A spokesperson from Derbyshire police said: “We were called out to an incident at 7.35am after a Ford transit van left the embankment.

“The accident was southbound and close to the Little Eaton roundabout. The vehicle is currently being recovered with Highways in attendance.”

Traffic is now easing on the stretch of road.

Traffic England is reporting heavy congestion backing up towards Ripley.

There is still a delay of 10 minutes according to traffic information Inrix.

Earlier accident on A38 involving five vehicles

There was an earlier incident on the A38 where five vehicles were involved in an accident.

The incident happened between the A61 Derby Road near Watchorn Island and M1 near Junction 28.

White van 'came off the carriageway'

She says a white van has come off the carriageway and is facing the wrong direction.

One police car is currently at the scene of the accident.

According to traffic information company Inrix, drivers are looking at a delay of 10 minutes for their commute this morning.

Traffic England is reporting slow traffic all the way to Heage.
