Activity days to be held in Burton for children with additional needs.

Caudwell Children, a Staffordshire based charity has announced that they will be running a series of five free activity days for both disabled children and those with special needs throughout the summer holidays.

Sessions will be held at Shobnall Leisure Centre and the group is inviting children and young people aged eight to 18 to use their imagination and take part in a range of workshop activities.

The children will be able to try their hand at theatre, expressive arts, music, DJing and dance, among others.

Four sessions have been planned for Friday’s during August, on Friday 4, 11, 18 and 25, as well as Friday, September 1.

The days will begin at 2pm and finish at 5pm and will seek to develop skills, confidence and self-esteem.

Caudwell Children is a charity that provides practical and emotional support for disabled children and their families, and family services manager, Julia Lunn said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to get out of the house over the school summer holiday and make new friends and learn new skills.

“Participants will get the chance to act, dance, paint, make masks, create animations, play musical instruments and try their hand at DJing.

“They’re going to be fabulous, fun filled days and with only 15 places available, per session, I’d urge parents to get their child registered now to avoid disappointment.”

Julia has also expressed that there is a serious side to the days of fun, saying: “It’s a great way to develop listening skills and learn how to respond to others. So whilst participants will be having a great time, in a fantastic workshop, they will be developing many invaluable skills."

Each activity day has been Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network, ASDAN accredited as part of Caudwell children’s expressive arts programme.

Children with personal care needs will be required to be accompanied by a parent or carer.
