A family's pet hen has been killed in a “despicable” crime after thugs broke into a shed at a house in Ashby and poured petrol over its contents.
It happened sometime between 10pm on Saturday, June 24, and 7.45am on Sunday, June 25, when the raiders forced their way through a hedge in the back garden of a property in Smisby Road, in the town. The thugs got into the shed and poured fuel over items, including flowers in the garden.
They have then let the family pet hen, Becky, out of the shed and killed it, said a police spokesman.
The family have now released a picture of Becky in the hope that someone will come forward to in the hunt to catch the thugs responsible.
A spokesman for North West Leicestershire Police said: “This was a despicable crime and we need to find the people responsible. Did you see anyone in the Smisby Road area during Saturday night?
“If you can help us solve this crime then please get in touch. Anyone with any information is asked to contact 8941 Sarah Powell by calling Leicestershire Police on 101, quoting crime number 17*269927.”
