Burton Albion has joined forces with a tyre giant to show support for the fund-raising efforts of a Burton woman for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Pirelli and The Brewers have donated £2,500 to Rebecca Brookes in her efforts to support the charity. The two have worked together for a number of years with supporters using the Pirelli staff car park on home match days.

The funds raised from this, more than £2,100, have been topped up to £2,500 by Pirelli and donated to Rebecca.

Rebecca has completed a wing walk challenge to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, which funds medical research and supports those affected by brain tumours.

She wanted to raise money for the charity as her husband, Mark, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017 and although he had surgery which removed 95 per cent of the tumour it was malignant. Now Mark is receiving ongoing treatment for an aggressive form of brain cancer including radio and chemotherapy.

In total, Rebecca has raised more than £8,000 for the cause - including the £2,500 donation from Pirelli and Burton Albion.

Dominic Sandivasci, Pirelli UK chairman and chief executive, said: "We are delighted to be able to support Rebecca in her quest to raise as much money as possible for The Brain Tumour Charity.

"Not only have we been able to provide a parking solution to Burton Albion Football Club and its supporters, the parking money is now supporting a very special cause. We look forward to continuing this initiative and supporting many more charities."

Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson said: "We have had a special relationship with Pirelli going back many years and we were delighted to work with them again to not only offer extra matchday parking for supporters but also to raise money for charity. I am delighted that as a result of this initiative that we can now make this donation to such a brilliant cause."

Rebecca said: "It was truly an amazing experience which I will never forget. My husband Mark and I are overwhelmed by the support and the amount of money that has been donated.

"This fantastic amount will help the charity with its goal of halving the harm and doubling the survival. We thank Pirelli and Burton Albion fans in helping to raise in excess of £8,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity."
