A Burton man has avoided an immediate jail sentence despite taking a car while "significantly" over the drug-drive limit.

Jaspreet Mann, 32, of Station Street, Burton, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court where he admitted three charges.

He admitted driving a Renault Megane in Asda car park, Sinfin, on December 28, while above the legal drug-drive limit.

He also admitted taking the vehicle without consent in Burton on December 27, and breaching a conditional discharge.

Mann was made the subject of a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months because magistrates said he was significantly over the legal limit and was driving a stolen vehicle.

He has been banned from driving for 36 months and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
