Bill Dunn: Tributes paid after death of Midway council stalwart

Tributes have been flooding in for a well known “dedicated, humorous and kind” former councillor who spent 42 years serving his community.

Former South Derbyshire District councillor, Bill Dunn, who is the only person to have been given Honorary Freedom of the District status in ‘recognition and appreciation of his 42 years of eminent service’, has died at the age of 87.

Accident on A38 causing congestion

The A38 near Burton is partially blocked due to an accident.

The southbound carriageway at A5206 / A5148 (Swinfen Island) is blocking causing congestion to A5192 Cappers Lane (Lichfield) due to an accident. There is queuing traffic, traffic and travel information website reports.

The accident is reported as being on the roundabout. Emergency services are currently attending the scene. This is separate to the accident on the A38 near to the Weeford Island.

Two accidents and broken down vehicles are causing problems for motorists

There have been problems on the roads this morning with two accidents and two broken down vehicles causing delays for motorists.

Earlier this morning, a three-car crash on the M1 southbound caused delays of up to one hour and 45 minutes for people heading into work.

Three cars have been involved in an accident on the M1 near East Midlands Airport this morning.

Commuters have been urged to avoid the southbound carriageway in that area as delays of one hour and 30 minutes have been predicted.

All lanes re-opened on M1

All lanes have been re-opened on the M1 southbound after a three-car collision and a broken down vehicle caused havoc on the road.

Commuters are still being urged to avoid the area with delays of one hour 45 minutes expected.

One lane on M1 southbound still closed

Lanes one and two of the M1 southbound between junction 25 and 24a near East Midlands Airport were closed this morning following a crash involving three cars.

Both lanes were re-opened at around 7.10am, but lane one has since been closed after a vehicle broke down while stuck in queues.

Travel time is still expected to be 1 hour 45 minutes.

Delays of almost two hours on M1 after crash

Motorists have been urged to avoid the M1 southbound close to East Midlands Airport after an early morning crash.

Highways England has reported that three cars were involved in a collision at around 6.30am this morning, leaving two lanes closed between junction 25 and 24a.

Traffic is now queuing and the delays are expected to add 100 minutes to commuters’ journeys. The incident is expected to be cleared at around 8am.
