It's official - the cutest pets from the Burton and South Derbyshire area have been chosen.

Hundreds of you entered your beloved animal friends in our Burton Mail Prize Pets 2018 competition and now the winners can be annouced.

We received nominations in their hundreds, and it's been a pleasure to showcase the cutest pictures of your dogs, cats, hamsters, birds and even bearded dragons.

We've been amazed by the entries too as one thing is for sure Burton Mail readers are top animal lovers.

We got readers to vote for their favourite pets so it's you who have chosen the winners.

The winning owner of the best pet will receive £200, the runner-up will get £100 and third-placed will receive £50.

And it's been all about top dogs - although there were many cute cats too - but first, second and third in out competition went to pooches.

In first place, and is truly is a top dog is gorgeous old English sheep dog Marley. In second place was 'spot on' as it went to dalmatian Jasmine.

Third was cockapoo Teddy. All our winners were as cute as can be, but was Marley who finally won got the vote and is crowned the 2018 winner.

Marley the seven-year-old English sheep dog won the hearts of our readers in this years' Burton Prize Pets competition.

Owner Melissa Day, 22, of Horninglow, said: "He's the main character in the house.

"He's so clever it's unreal. Whenever he hears the words 'happy birthday' he runs to the family to help open presents.

"I couldn't believe he won to be honest. Obviously people have seen he's a good looking dog!"

Jasmine the seven-year-old dalmatian came in as runner-up in our Burton Prize Pets awards.

Her owner, 47-year-old Jo Underwood, of Hatton, said: "Jasmine is the most chilled out, happiest dog ever, her tail never stops wagging!

"She doesn't seem to understand that she's too big to be a lap dog and therefore spends most of her time sat on mine or my son Jake's knee!

"She is a regular at The Castle Hotel in Hatton where I work and the customers all love her.

"Jasmine would like to thank everyone who voted for her and she's gonna spend all her prize money on snacks because she loves her food!"

Teddy the fluffy one-year-old cockapoo came third place in our competition.

His owner, Sasha Cresswell, 47, said: "He's quite a funny dog, he's so cute and cuddly and makes us laugh.

"He's just a softie. You can't really describe it until you see him.

"He's lovely bless him."

Burton Mail editor Julie Crouch said: "I'd like to thank everyone who entered their pets in our competition.

"There were hundreds of them too. We certainly love our animals and quite right too; they are our friends and treat them well and their love for us is unconditional.
