The hunt is continuing today in a bid to catch a robber who held up a Burton coffee shop with what is thought to be a BB gun.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses or people with CCTV or dash-cam footage that might have captured the armed raid at Costa Coffee in Eastern Avenue, Stretton, on Tuesday evening, June 12, to come forward.

It comes after officers were called at 8.50pm to a report of a man, they said was wearing one white glove, who was armed with what was possibly a BB gun.

He entered the coffee shop through a back door and threatened staff, before forcing them to hand over cash from the till and safe, said police.

Detectives said that "staff and customers were understandably left shaken and upset" by the incident but no-one was physically hurt.

Costa coffee was targeted by a robber

Police said the man has been described as black ad in his late teens or early 20s. He was dressed all in black and wore a balaclava and the one white glove, they said.

The robber fled from the scene on foot along Derby Road before being picked up by a waiting car in nearby Brindley Way, police have said.

The car, which is believed to be a new shape white BMW 1 Series, is then thought to have headed towards the A38 at Clay Mills.

A Costa Coffee spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident took place in the Burton Drive Thru store. The incident is now in the hands of the police and we will continue to co-operate fully with their investigation."

Any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage that may help with the police investigation is asked to call 101 and quote incident number 817 of June 12.
