A 55-year-old man has been told to keep a muzzle on his dog after it injured a person.

William Heaps, of Buckingham Drive, Swadlincote, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

He admitted being in charge of a dog, namely a five-year-old Labrador named Harvey, which was dangerously out of control in Swadlincote and it injured a person, on April 29.

Heaps has been ordered to keep a muzzle on the dog at all times when in public places and that the dog be kept on a lead and be locked in a secure room at all times while any child under the age of 16 is in the same property as the dog, otherwise it will be destroyed.

Heaps was made the subject of a 12 -month community order and must carry out 80 hours unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
