Shocking footage has been released showing a cyclist not stopping for a red traffic light at a notorious junction near Newhall.
The dash-cam footage, taken by Stanton resident Geoff Cooper, shows a cyclist carrying on pedalling as other traffic stops. Cars then begin turning into the road as their light turns green, as the cyclist continues pedalling into the traffic - dangerously close to three turning cars. The biker was caught on camera while travelling along the A444 Woodland Road, Stanton, in the direction of Burton from Swadlincote.

Mr Cooper had stopped at red lights while travelling in the opposite direction, as vehicles travelling from Newhall turned onto the A444. However, as these vehicles make their turning two end up very close to cyclist.

Mr Cooper said: “I took this video on dash-cam at 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 5.

"A cyclist seemed to totally ignored the red stop traffic light at the junction of Park Road and Woodland Road (A444) Stanton. He was nearly hit by a car.”

It is not the first time Mr Cooper has provided the Burton Mail with dash-cam footage of a near-miss at the same junction.

In April, he sent in footage of a van apparently running a red light in Woodland Road, before veering onto the wrong side of the road in an attempt to overtake the car in front. It appears the van driver was not aware of traffic waiting on the opposite side of the road in a filter lane.

The near-miss happened on April 21 just 24 hours after a collision involving five cars at the junction, in which two people were injured and the road blocked.
