Firefighters were called to tackle a grass fire in Measham after temperatures reached sweltering highs.

Fire chiefs from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue were called to a field off High Street at 5.10pm on Monday, June 25, following reports of smoke in the area.

Two crews from Swadlincote and Coalville attended the incident as they attempted to tackle the blaze.

Fire crews left the scene at 7.10pm. The cause of the blaze, whether accidental or arson, is not yet known.

A witness took to social media to warn others of the fire.

They said: "Fire on Measham High Street. Stay out the area if possible.

"Well done to Swadlincote fire department for getting here so fast. Be careful in dry grass, in this heat it's spreading fast."
