A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Burton on suspicion of attempting to groom a child, police have said.

Staffordshire Police confirmed that officers had arrested the man who was on Burton Bridge over the River Trent at 8.30pm yesterday, Sunday, August 7.

The investigation was then handed over to their colleagues at Derbyshire Police and the man is currently being questioned by officers in relation to the alleged offences. He remains in police custody.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: "I can confirm that Staffordshire Police have transferred a crime to Derbyshire police. A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to groom a child. He remains in our custody and is being questioned."
