A 24-year-old man is to appear at crown court charged with attempted robbery at a Burton convenience store, alleged to have involved a knife.

Zishran Ali, of Queen Street, Burton, has already appeared at Cannock Magistrates' Court charged with allegedly attempting to rob a man of an unknown amount of cash at Ash News Food and Wine, in Uxbridge Street, in the town. He was also charged with possession of a knife.

Both incidents are said to have taken place on July 10. No-one was injured in the incident and nothing was stolen from the store.

The incident was also the subject of a police appeal at the time and witnesses were asked to come forward

Ali is due to attend Stafford Crown Court on Friday, August 11, and has been remanded into custody.
