A mum-of-two from Burton who blogs about her life has become a finalist in a national blogging award contest.

Laura Steer, 32, from Burton, started her blog Little Ladies Big World in January 2016 as a way to document her life with two children and to explore her passion for photography. Just over 18 months after her first post, she was revealed to be a finalist in the 2017 Brilliance in Blogging awards.

The focus of Laura’s blog centres on her husband, Eddy, 35, and their two daughters Eva, six, and Roma, two. In the blog, she shares details on everything from her children’s allergies, severe hyperemesis in pregnancy to how her girls like to wave to the binmen.

Since starting her online article Laura has left her job in finance to concentrate on her blog full-time, allowing her to spend more time with her children too.

Adding to her achievements in the past year, Laura has also been featured on thw website of a leading hyperemesis charity and has been writing articles for online magazines such as Good To Know.

Thousands of votes have been cast across 11 categories for the awards, organised by blogging community BritMums. The community has a membership of more than 8,000 social influencers with a total audience of more than 120 million.

Laura said: “I am shocked and extremely excited to be a finalist, it means all the 1am bedtimes writing around the children are totally worth it. It definitely makes this little space of mine feel very special and I am forever thankful to have started my blog which allows me to stay at home with my children. I feel very lucky.”

The awards ceremony will be held at the BritMums Live 2017 conference on Saturday, September 30, in London and will later include a glamorous City Cruises Party on the River Thames.

‘The Missing Tooth’

Laura’s blog highlights the unique parts of every day in a series called The Ordinary Moments. In February, she wrote a blog about Eva losing her first tooth. Here's what she had to say:

“I love to see Eva laugh. When something really tickles her, her mouth opens wide, her head swings back and she lets the loudest uncomplicated sound of laughter escape her lips as her hair wafts around her face trying to keep up.

"She laughs so hard that tears trickle from her twinkly eyes, droplets of saliva sit innocently on her lips and she can just about catch her breath before it consumes her once again and she doubles over gripping her stomach which is in spasm from the sheer effort of emitting that beautiful sound.

"She finally catches her breath once more and looks up from being completely lost in the moment of utter joy with that exhausted happy grin.

"The grin that is now one tooth less and that in an instant has completely changed forever.”
