Pingle Academy have celebrated another year of success for GCSE results today on Thursday, August 24.

It comes after the Swadlincote school achieved their best A-level results to date last week.

Speaking of the students’ triumph, head teacher, Vivien Sharples, said: "Today is all about celebrating the achievements of individual students and I am delighted that we have so many success stories to tell.

"This year the new grading system made it difficult for schools to predict exactly what students would achieve. Direct comparisons between last year’s results and those this year have now become very difficult, but it is clear that our students have achieved more top grades than last year and that is something to be really proud of.

"There is a great atmosphere today, with the vast majority of students celebrating their achievements and able to take the step on to the pathway of their choice. We are delighted that so many of our students have surpassed their targets and achieved the new good grade of 9-5 in English and maths.

"We will welcome back a large proportion of our students into the sixth form, as well as many students from other schools. They can look forward to a great experience here at Pingle in a sixth form which has achieved outstanding A level results this summer.

"Parents and carers have been extremely supportive and have worked in partnership with us to ensure students have done their best.

"I wish to acknowledge the dedication of our staff; teachers, teaching assistants and support staff have been absolutely fantastic in supporting the students to prepare for these very important examinations, with additional timetabled lessons after school, regular Saturday morning revision sessions and even Sunday focus days just before key examinations.

"The hard work has been worth it to see the smiles today."
