A police helicopter was called into search for a woman who called the emergency services after her leg got stuck under water.

Police and firefighters spent almost two hours searching for the 41-year-old after she was unable to give them a precise location of her whereabouts in Hatton.

It is believed the incident happened in the River Dove.

Police first received a call at 11.55pm on Saturday. The woman then made a further call to say she was near Tutbury Fire Station, near Tutbury Mill.

A police helicopter was launched to locate her and she was found at 1.50am. West Midlands Ambulance Service staff were on hand to check the woman.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “Positive response to female stuck in water in unknown location at #Hatton. Lady found safely and being cared for by ambulance crews. Good job all.”

Inspector Steven Wild, of Staffordshire Police, warned of the risks of being in the water, adding:“You don’t know what is underneath your foot.”
