Pupils from a high school near Burton have been involved in a serious collision this morning while on an art trip, it has been confirmed.

The Year 9 and Year 12 pupils from John Taylor High School, in Dunstall Road, Barton under Needwood, have been involved in a “serious road accident”, a spokesman from the school has confirmed.

It is unclear if any pupils have been injured. They were travelling in a minibus, in Kingsbury Road, Birmingham. The collision is believed to have happened at 9am today.

A statement has been made in a text to parents which said: “Please be aware that a number of our Year 9 and Year 12 students on an art trip have been involved in a serious road traffic accident this morning.

“We are working to support those directly affected. Please support us by not ringing the school as this closes our lines.

“More information will be provided via the school website.”

The website said the school was “unclear of specific details and are awaiting confirmation from the authorities”.

A large number of emergency services are in the scene and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

The incident is thought to have taken place near the junction with Forge Lane.

A reporter from the Birmingham Mail, who is at the scene, said there was a small minibus involved and a bin lorry was also inside the cordon. There are several police officers at the scene of the accident and the minibus has green tarpaulin draped over its side windows.

An eyewitness to the crash, who did not want to be named, claimed at least one person was seriously injured.

Kingsbury Road is a busy commuter route and the incident has sparked long tailbacks.
