A security firm is controlling the entrance of a car park connected to a Branston business after travellers set up camp last night, Tuesday, August 22.

Brit Sec, based on Wetmore Road also has a specialist dog unit on site and is working on behalf of the landowner to try to protect the site.

It is believed they are the same travellers who moved on to the car park at Branston Golf and Country Club earlier this month.

They are due to evicted at 4pm today

An eyewitness told the Burton Mail that there are several caravans pitched up in Second Avenue and it was first believed police officers had sealed off the entrance. The eyewitness also reported seeing dogs on the scene.

The firm is controlling the entrance to the car park by preventing anymore travellers from accessing the land but also to allow delivery vehicles in and out as per the landowner’s request.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We were called at around 11.15am yesterday, August 22, to a report that travellers had moved onto land in Second Avenue, in Burton.

“An eviction notice has been served and we will be assisting with the eviction at 4pm today, August 23, to prevent a breach of the peace.”

Only last week travellers were forced to move on after pitching up on the lawns of the Hotel Mercure Burton upon Trent Newton Park, in Newton Road, Newton Solney, after arriving at around 8pm on Wednesday, August 16.

This is the third time this month that travellers have been spotted near Burton.

On Wednesday, August 2, a group of travellers moved on to the car park at Branston Golf and Country Club, Burton Road, Branston.

The group arrived at the site and parked two caravans in the car park, but were told by the club that they were going to issue them with a court order forcing them to move on.

The travellers pitched up on Tuesday, August 22

Staff at the venue used a digger to block off the entrance to prevent any other caravans from entering the site and the travellers later blocked the entrance to the car park, stopping anyone from entering or leaving the club's grounds.

People were left in their cars for up to 30 minutes as they waited for police to arrive at the scene.
