A charity football match which saw the likes of Katie Price and Kerry Katona head to Burton raised nearly £20,000, it has been revealed.

All proceeds from the friendly fixture at Pirelli Stadium will go towards a wide range of projects run by Burton Albion Community Trust, the charitable arm of the Brewers.

Celebrities, including Stephen Graham, Calum Best and Brewers' manager Nigel Clough, took part in April's game, which saw nearly 3,000 people turn out to get a glimpse of the stars.

Matt Hancock, head of community, said: "We're delighted with how the fixture went and to now find out how much was raised is fantastic. We would like to thank everyone who attended, and we hope that everyone had a fantastic day.

"We couldn't have done it without the help of the football club and of course Sellebrity Soccer UK, who run these charity events around the country. A special mention must also go to our matchday sponsors The Close Brothers.

"The monies now will go towards making a difference in our community, through the power of sport and the brand of Burton Albion."

Other big names to pull on their football boots included TOWIE stars, Dan Osborne and James 'Arg' Argent, who were joined by Love Island star Dom Lever.

Danny Boy Hatchard and Dean Gaffney swapped the Queen Vic for the football pitch as the EastEnders stars tried to get the ball in the back of the net.

Shayne Ward, who played Aidan Connor in Coronation Street, also appeared, along with musicians including Jimmy Constable from 911 and MC Harvey from So Solid Crew.

Completing the line up were actor Stephen Graham, who starred in Gangs of New York and Pirates of the Caribbean, and Matt Lapinskas, who appeared in EastEnders.

Fleur Robinson, Burton Albion commercial director, said: "It's great to see how much has been raised for our charitable arm (Burton Albion Community Trust) from the celebrity football game.

"It was a fantastic occasion and we are very proud to have hosted it. It's great to know that the money raised will now go back in to the local community, to benefit a wide range of people and projects."

Kevin Cooper, manager of Sellebrity Soccer UK, said he was delighted with how the event went and added: "It was a brilliant day at Burton Albion and we're really happy with the monies raised.

"It's great to see that the club's very own community trust will have ownership of the money, to put back into a wide range of projects around the Burton area."
