A broken down freight train between Burton and Tamworth is causing delays of up to 45 minutes for those travelling between Derby and Birmingham New Street on the rail network today, July 28.

Online traffic monitoring website, Inrix has confirmed that some trains are being diverted from Tamworth through Leicester.

Northbound trains travelling from Birmingham to Derby are working normally, and for those with pre-booked tickets, these are being accepted on East Midlands Trains and London Midland services.

National Rail tweeted this morning that disruptions between Tamworth and Burton were expected until about 8am, which they then extended to 9am and now are saying the delays will last until 10am.

Elsewhere on the roads this morning, there are some traffic problems on the A38 at the A5121 Branston Interchange, but traffic sensors suggest those travelling are coping well.

A broken down car on the A50 at Uttoxeter, on the B5030 Ashbourne Road for the Little Chef roundabout has caused the eastbound lane to close.

One of the vehicles tyres has a puncture and is affecting traffic between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter.
