A vehicle has crashed into a bollard on a commuter route into Burton town centre. Shobnall Street is blocked in both directions following the incident which was reported to Staffordshire Police at 9am this morning, Friday, July 14.

A spokesman for the force said: "We were called at 9am this morning to reports that a red Kia had gone into a bollard in Shobnall Street.

"We don't believe any other vehicle was involved. The driver, a man in his 80s, has been taken to Burton's Queen's Hospital as a precautionary measure.

"Recovery is now taking place and there are fluids from the vehicle on the road so it has been closed while a clear-up takes place."

Traffic and travel information website, Inrix, reports that the incident is believed to have happened at the Casey Lane junction.

It also adds there is fluid on the road and there is slow traffic. Midland Classic bus services 3 and 8 will divert via Waterloo Street and therefore will be unable to serve the town hall and St Paul's Street West.

The bus firm also reports Shobnall Street is now closed.

A Tweet from the company said: “Shobnall Street in Burton is currently closed due to an RTC. Services 3 & 8 will divert via Waterloo Street and therefore will be unable to serve the Town Hall and St Pauls St West.”
