A crash on Swarkestone Bridge is causing long delays for drivers this evening.

The A514 is closed in both directions between B587 and A5132 Barrow Lane. There is also congestion on A514 to Breach Lane and on B587 to Breach Lane, following a three vehicle collision.

The incident happened at 4pm and involved three cars.

A police spokesman said it was likely to cause traffic problems for "some time" as all three vehicles were not driveable.

She said that meant they would all need to be picked up by a recovery vehicle.

The crash, she said, had "done some minor damage to the bridge's brickwork".

Drivers are being warned to expect delays due to heavy traffic on the A511 Horninglow Road. Temporary traffic lights are causing traffic to build up at Shakespeare Road in the roadworks area.

Motorists are also being reminded that overnight works are taking place in Burton Town Centre this evening.

Staffordshire County Council has announced that resurfacing work will take place over six consecutive nights at the junction of Stapenhill Road and Ashby Road junction, the Shobnall Road/Wellington Road Island, Wellington Street/Borough Road, Horninglow Street and the junction of Horninglow Street and Guild Street.

Traffic management will take place in the listed areas from 7.30pm onwards and are expected to finish at around 6am the following mornings.
