A man who was arrested in connection with a serious assault in Burton has been released.

Staffordshire Police said officers investigated a report of a serious assault that had taken place in New Street at around 4.45am on Sunday, August 6.

The force said that the injured party was discharged from hospital later the same morning with no serious injuries and has said that they do not wish to proceed with a complaint, said a police spokesman.

A man arrested by police in connection with the incident has since been released without charge, the force has said.

New Street was closed by officers while an investigation was carried out on Sunday, which was reported to have taken place near to the Octagon shopping centre.
