Staff working at a Burton store will have to wait nearly two months to see if their jobs are safe as it introduces a new "in-store management structure".

Home store Wilko, which has branches in Burton Place shopping centre, Burton, as well as one in High Street, Uttoxeter, has revealed that all of its employees nationwide have now entered in to a consultation period as part of proposed changes, with its 3,900 employees put on notice of potential redundancy.

Employees are now involved in a 60-day consultation period. Bosses at the store said they cannot reveal if any staff members in East Staffordshire will be lost as a result of the changes. They added that they cannot comment on actual numbers affected by the re-structuring until after the consultation period.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm that the proposed changes means that we are talking to 39,000 members of our store supervisory team about our new in-store management structure.

"We can also confirm that we are introducing more than 1,000 new senior supervisor roles and a significant amount of customer service roles as we re-invest back in to our teams to deliver an enhanced customer experience in store."

The discount chain said, following a review of its operating functions, changes are required to "ensure it is best placed to continue to thrive within an ever-changing retail landscape".

Wilko said it is consulting with members of its store supervisory teams about a new management structure, alongside trade union the GMB.
