Newly-weds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly set to return wedding gifts worth a total of £7million.

The Mirror reports presents are being sent back because of strict guidelines in place to prevent companies from using the royal couple for publicity purposes only.

The pair married at Windsor Castle last month which was watched by millions of people.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex - their now formal name - had requested well-wishers not to send gifts but to instead make a donation to one of the charities they support.

But despite their wishes it appears the couple also received a number of other gifts.

The Express reports that one company who sent the couple a gift is Bags of Love.

It is understood the firm sent Prince Harry and Meghan a matching bikini and swimming trunk combo.

But Kensington Palace guidelines state: "Gifts offered by private individuals living in the UK not personally known to the Member of the Royal Family should be refused where there are concerns about the propriety or motives of the donor or the gift itself."

The palace told The Mirror: "When gifts are accepted, the consent of the Member of the Royal Family should be contingent upon the enterprise undertaking not to exploit the gift for commercial purposes."

Kensington Palace has not revealed the total amount of money raised in donations.

A total of 11.5 million people watched Harry and Meghan tie the knot on May 19 – 8.9 million on BBC One and 2.6 million on ITV.
