A 23-year-old driver overtaking parked cars in a country road near Burton crashed into an oncoming vehicle but fled the scene, a court heard.

Jason Leach, of Walkfield Road, Alrewas, has still not made himself available for a police interview following the incident which happened in Church Lane, Fradley.
It was later proved in court in his absence that he drove without due care and attention, failed to stop after an accident and failed to report it.

JPs sitting at North Staffordshire Justice Centre proved the case in his absence.

The court heard that at 3.50pm, on November 2, last year, Leach was driving a Suzuki Ignis, in Church Lane, overtaking parked vehicles. At this time another vehicle, which had priority, was travelling in the opposite direction. Leach failed to wait and attempted to continue passed the parked cars and, as a result, crashed into a parked Ford Ka causing damage to that vehicle.

Despite a witness advising Leach of the crash, he failed to stop and exchange details and also failed to report the crash to police.
The owner of the Ka reported the incident and enquiries resulted in Leach being traced and providing a response confirming that he was driving the vehicle at the time.
However, the court heard that numerous attempts were made to interview the defendant, however he has failed to make himself available.

The road surface was in good condition and dry and the visibility was good.
Leach has been fined £660 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge
His licence was endorsed with seven points.
