Mental health awareness sessions are being held in Burton to support those suffering across East Staffordshire.

Changes Tamworth is holding two hour sessions at Burton Community Fire Station, in Moor Street, every Friday from 10.30am and 12.30pm. A range of support and activities are held during that time including their own 12 steps to recovery.

These 12 steps seek to help those suffering with mental illness be able to participate and share their experiences with others to try and help to inspire one another to think more positively.

This free service has been brought to Burton after national charity, Together for Mental Wellbeing, won a contract commissioned by Tamworth authorities and took over from the original provider in October 2016.

Now, Changes Tamworth is being ran as a privately-funded charity and organiser, Yvonne Street, who helped to re-establish the group has been running it without a wage.

Yvonne, from Burton, explained her reasoning behind fighting to save the group, saying: “We all know people who are struggling with mental health and they need somewhere to go.”

Weekly sessions are held every Friday at Burton Community Fire Station, and if you are interested or anybody else is interested in attending the sessions, Yvonne has asked if you can always call ahead, so she can discuss individual cases with those involved. She can be contacted on 01827 311006 to arrange your visit to the group.
