A supermarket giant is looking for new people to join its growing team.

Aldi, which has a store in Horninglow Street, Burton, and The Pipeworks, in Swadlincote, is hiring as it creates 35 new jobs with the opening of a new store in Leicestershire.

The German discount chain is preparing to open a store off Broughton Road, Broughton Astley, and 15 members of staff, including manager Nick Jones, have already been appointed.

A further 20 will be needed in time for the store’s opening at the end of the summer, including deputy store managers , store assistants and apprentices.

The store, which is currently under construction, is near to the site where 310 new houses are being built as part of Broughton Astley’s “Big Plan”.

Mr Jones, from Leicester, who first joined Aldi in 2007, said the company offered one of the best working environments in the UK.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to the new challenges that the Broughton Astley store will present.

“The recent investment in the area will make the new store a busy one, so we’ll need a great team with bags of enthusiasm and customer service skills to ensure we offer the best experience possible.

“We’d encourage anyone interested in a successful and rewarding career in retail to take a look at our recruitment website – we have a whole host of opportunities for people at all stages of their career, from school leavers to managers.”

Aldi was crowned Employer of the Year 2017 at the Grocer Gold awards and the company said it offered a “significantly higher” rate of hourly pay compared to most other British supermarkets.

The lowest-paid Aldi employees currently receive at least £8.53 per hour, regardless of their age.

The deputy store manager roles, which start from 25 hours per week, come with a starting salary of £9.53 per hour rising to £11.15 per hour, plus an extra £4 per hour when the deputy is managing the store.

The store is looking for candidates with “strong numerical skills” for the store assistant roles, which involve operating the tills, stock management and merchandising.

Full training for new assistants will be provided over a four-week period and the store assistant roles are available from 15 to 30 hours a week, with salaries starting at £8.53 per hour, rising to £10.15 per hour.

Aldi has said it would announce plans for its Broughton Astley store launch celebrations, as well as confirming the opening date, in the coming weeks.
