Things are going bump in the night at Alton Towers and people are needed to work at the park - for three weeks only.

The theme park has 50 jobs up for grabs for the temporary staff to sell food and drink and operate some of the rides during this year's Scarefest and next month's annual fireworks extravaganza.

The food and drink will be on sale at the resort's Alton Towers Hotel and Splash Landings Hotel as well as from kiosks on the site.

Alton Towers worker John Gregory, 56, of Uttoxeter, who is an assistant area manager for the rides team, said: "We are looking for about 40 or 50 people in the two areas to work for three weeks in our busiest period – Scarefest and the fireworks.

"We are looking for people with confidence and a good understanding of the guest experience. We want people who are going to be cheerful and who enjoy working as part of a team."

Leisure operations supervisor Nicolle Johnson, 27, of Longton, said: "Working at Scarefest is amazing. It's fun, fast and exciting. Once you have got your foot in the door, there is always the chance of a more permanent role. Even during the winter, we have some really big conferences at Alton Towers and there are opportunities.

"For recruits on the food and beverage side, we would ideally like previous experience, but we are willing to train. We are looking for happy, bubbly people."
Alton Towers staged a recruitment event for the jobs at Cheadle's Pugin Centre over the weekend.

Applicant Rachel Owen, 16, of Brown Edge, said: "I have applied for the rides team. I really want to work at Alton Towers - it is the Disneyland of England. I have visited lots of times and my favourite ride is Nemesis."

Fellow applicant Joshua Brown, 21, of Meir, said: "I love going to Alton Towers. I have been visiting for as long as I can remember and I have lots of happy memories.

"Whenever we have something to celebrate, like birthdays, we have gone to Alton Towers. It is a great place for a celebration. Rita, Queen of Speed is my favourite ride, but I just want to work at Alton Towers."

This year's Scarefest launched over the weekend. It returns this Saturday and Sunday and then runs from October 20 to 31. The fireworks spectacular is on November 4 and 5.

Alton Towers senior recruitment manager Jason Mumford said: "Scarefest is a very exciting time for the resort and brings lots of 'spooktacular' job opportunities."
