Working with young people is a dream come true for many but those wanting to help youngsters who are deaf could now be in luck.

The Royal School for the Deaf Derby is looking for a waking night worker to make regular checks on the children and young people through the night to make sure they are safe and well.

There are four waking night shifts per week from Monday to Friday during term time and they start at 10.05pm and finish at 8.30am the following morning. The successful applicant will also be responsible for ensuring the pupils eat a healthy breakfast, develop independent living skills and make sure they leave their house ready for the day ahead.

Ideally applicants should already hold British Sign Language Level 2 and an appropriate underpinning Level 3 qualification for the Children and Young People's Workforce however training and sponsorship opportunities are available for both of these qualifications.

A spokesman said: "Royal School for the Deaf Derby is dedicated to safeguarding children and young people. This role is a regulated activity and subject to rigorous safeguarding checks throughout the recruitment selection and assessment process including an enhanced criminal record check through the DBS for both children's and adult workforces."

Anyone interested in the position has until September 14 to get their applications in and more information is available here.
