Dozens of jobs are set to be up for grabs at a major careers fair in Burton this week. The event, which will take place from 9.30am on Friday, September 8, at Burton Market Hall, is looking to build on a similar fair which took place in May where 41 people were offered work on the day and a further 100 were offered interviews.

Jeanette Hines, employer advisor for the Department for Work and Pensions, who is helping organise the event, said: "The two events earlier in the year were fantastic, with more than 30 businesses offering jobs and training opportunities and around 500 jobseekers attending each time.

"We are hoping for another successful turnout from both employers and job-seekers. There will be a huge spread of jobs on offer and we have some really great training opportunities to help people to get into work."

Businesses offering positions at the event include Fox's, Tyrells Potato Crisps, Hoar Cross Hall and the Chesterfield Arms.

Among the employers at the event will be Derbyshire County Council which is offering 10 vacancies.

Service manager Chris Betts said: "We have 10 care workers jobs on offer at the fair. The authority has attended the previous events and have always found them very useful."

Mrs Hines added: "We have been hugely fortunate with the number and quality of employers attending this month's event. We are also blessed with a fantastic venue in the form of Burton Market Hall.

"The partnership is always keen to develop the jobs fairs and we have taken on board their comments about ways to make the event even better."

The event is organised by the East Staffordshire Worklessness Action Group, a collective partnership made up of Business Enterprise Support, East Staffordshire Borough Council, Burton Jobcentre Plus, Trent and Dove Housing, Orbit Housing, Burton and South Derbyshire College and Support Staffordshire.

Limited spaces are still available for businesses wishing to attend the event and for more information, or to book, contact Jeanette on 01283 505028.
