Those dreaming of following in the footsteps of Nigel Clough or Gary Rowett could be in with a chance – but just on a slightly smaller scale.

While it can sometimes be lucrative if you achieve success, many would say that the role a football league manager is one that comes with long-term career prospects.

However, an opportunity has arisen to become a "football league manager". Sadly, it is not a chance to manage a real football league club - but to manage local five and six-a-side leagues.

A company called Leisure Leagues is looking for what it calls a "football league manager" - offering up franchises to people interested in running local amateur football leagues.

For more than 20 years, the firm has been organising and overseeing amateur competitions - organising leagues and recruiting teams to play in them.

The firm uses football pitches across the country, giving the opportunity to people from different walks of life and standards of football to get involved in a local league.

To date, the firm has leagues all over the UK and overseas - many of which are operated on a franchise basis - with 50,000 players taking part each week.

Now, Leisure Leagues is offering people the chance to operate a franchise in Derbyshire.

According to the firm, franchisees are paid £650 to £750 for every team they recruit. Some of its top franchisees have more than 300 teams in their leagues - which means they earn more than £200,000 a year.

Leisure Leagues said it provides franchisees with everything they need to get started - including state-of-the-art technology and training.

The firm said: “You will need to be confident when meeting new people, organised, and have the desire and dedication needed to become a success.

“An interest in football is an advantage but by no means an absolute necessity. Anyone can become a Leisure Leagues franchisee.

“People who have a background in sport, education, business, trade skills or professional sales are well suited.”

The closing date for applications is Friday, August 25. More information about the role is available here.
