East Staffordshire's sewerage service supplier is looking to recruit 250 people for its repair and maintenance teams in a major jobs boost for the area.

Water giant Severn Trent says the recruitment drive is part of the company’s ongoing campaign to improve customer service.

Severn Trent, which employs almost 6,000 people, has 4.5 million customers across the Midlands and north and mid-Wales.

Liv Garfield, Severn Trent chief executive, said: "We know how important it is for our customers to have a shower in the morning and to wake up with a freshly brewed cuppa, and our teams work hard every hour of every day to make that happen.

"They’re doing a cracking job working hard to keep everything working perfectly but we need even more people on board to make our service even better for our customers.

"So, alongside the teams who work to keep our network working perfectly, we also need people who can change our pipes, create a new connection or carry out major work to improve and update our network.

"Our teams are absolutely brilliant and this is a great chance to join an awesome company, while also making a real difference to millions of people."

As well as providing sewerage services in East Staffordshire, Severn Trent supplies 1.9 billion litres of drinking water each day across the UK.

This is the equivalent of 751 Olympic-sized swimming pools of drinking water every day - and also equated to 78 million litres of water every hour of every day.

The firm collects around 30,000 litres of waste water per second every day. Its network of pipes is 49,000km long for water and 93,000km for sewers.

Roles Severn Trent is looking to fill include repair and maintenance technicians, technical administrators and network support workers.
