An accident on the A50 eastbound caused major delays this afternoon.

According to traffic information company Inrix, the accident occurred between Junction 3 and Junction 2.

A spokesman from Derbyshire has confirmed that the collision was between a Renault van and a Kia, with the Kia overturning.

Officers from the force were called just after 3.55pm to the incident on the A50 eastbound just after the Toyota Island.

There are no serious injuries, and one lane was partially closed. Drivers were advised to avoid the area. And Highways England reported tailbacks of around six miles.

One lane was closed and police dealt with the incident, and reported that traffic started to ease at roughly 6.30pm.

All lanes now open

All lanes are now open again, according to traffic information company Inrix.

The latest update reads: “Traffic was briefly halted at times to assist with the recovery process. All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is around 40 minutes.”

What the ambulance service is saying

A spokesman from East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 3.55pm to the A50 Eastbound between Junction 3 and Junction 2. The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision involving three vehicles and there were three patients needing medical assistance. We sent an ambulance crew and are currently on scene.”

Car has overturned, say police

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: “We were called at 3.55pm to reports of a crash between a Renault van and a Kia. The Kia car has flipped over and there are no serious injures. We are currently waiting for the vehicles to be recovered.”
