A visitor to Alton Towers who was caught with drugs worth £60 has been fined.

Joshua Worsley was fined £300 for entering the popular theme park with cannabis worth £20 and cocaine worth £40.

The 20-year-old was searched by staff when he tried to get in to the park. Worsley, of Vaudrey Road, Woodley, Stockport, pleaded guilty to possession of a class A drug and possession of a class B drug on October 30.

Jason Holt, mitigating, told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court the defendant has now stopped using recreational drugs and is training very hard as a Thai boxer.

Recorder Andrew Easteal told Worsley: "There is a belief that possession is no big deal; you get fined and you move on. Repeated possession is what generates the trafficking in the first place and courts are getting tougher."
