A £2.3 million scheme is being proposed to help reduce congestion and improve the overall road condition of roads in and around Ashby.

And now, Leicestershire County Council is looking for residents in the area to get in touch and have their say on the plans.

Changes are being proposed to Discovery Way, the Ashby bypass junction and the Tesco roundabout to create easier access for motorists to industrial and retail premises in the area.

Work could begin as early as September if plans are successful and will be funded by the government’s national productivity investment fund.

A second route would be created at the A511 Ashby bypass at Discovery Way, allowing motorists to avoid Nottingham Road and the Tesco roundabout.

The carriageway on the Ashby bypass approach to the Tesco roundabout would be widened to reduce queues because of an increase of lane options. The lanes on Nottingham Road would also be widened to encourage the use of two lanes and the actual size of the roundabout near Tesco would be reduced to give more room for traffic.

Councillor Blake Pain, a cabinet member for highways, said: “The Discovery Way and Tesco roundabout, along with the A42 junction 13 Flagstaff roundabout, are an important part of our highways network and that is why we are looking to improve that area for motorists.
