An employee from a charity shop in Branston has made the brave decision to shave her hair for charity.

Christine Emmitt, who works at the Barnardo’s charity store in Branston Square, took the leap of faith after deciding she wanted to do something “different” for the organisation’s popular fund-raising event.

Barnardo’s, one of the UK’s leading children's charities, runs projects across the country supporting children, young people and families where abuse has taken place.

The organisation also offers flexible support to vulnerable children facing a range of difficulties, such as a family member with a disability.

Barnardo’s charity shop chains up and down the country hold four fund-raising events each year in order to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the UK.

The Branston store is due to hold its third fund-raising event, on Saturday, August 26, which will see Christine shave off her hair in front of a crowd of onlookers.

"I chose to do the head shave as we always just do raffles and tombolas and I wanted to do something different," said Christine, who is a sales associate at the store.

"I thought it would raise quite a bit; so far we’ve raised £240.

"A lot of people say I’m brave, a couple say I’m stupid, but they all support me."

Mrs Emmitt, who has worked at the store since its opening in February 2016, said the £240 was donated by customers visiting the store after fund-raising started five weeks ago.

The mum of four said her children were "proud" of her for taking part in such an event, which has already raised almost double the amount the charity usually do for their events.

The head shave is due to take place at 1pm on Saturday, August 26, at the store in Branston Square, Main Street, Branston.

Anyone who wants to donated can visit the store and speak to a member of staff.
