Wrong toppings on a pizza led to a Derbyshire resident calling the police to report fraud, it has been revealed.

The anonymous caller has been slammed by the county top cop Chief Superintendent Graham McLaughlin for wasting resources by making the shocking call on Tuesday, August 29.

Chief Supt McLaughlin shamed the nuisance caller for attempting to report the pizza "fraud" to Derbyshire police on Twitter.

The tweet said: "Thanks to the caller for wasting police time and resources as their pizza had the wrong topping so they wanted to report a fraud @DerbysPolice."

He has since said that such calls can prevent officers from helping victims of crime and even finding missing people.

He said: "Every time someone misuses the 101 service they are wasting valuable police time and resources.

"It can delay the speed of response to genuine victims of crime, or to members of the public who might be contacting us with important intelligence around crime prevention, detection and missing persons.

"This is especially true when we receive a large number of nuisance calls, which can significantly impact upon on how quickly other calls are answered."

Derbyshire police did not want to reveal further details about the incident or whether anyone has been arrested. They would not provide a recording of the 101 call, as it was considered a further waste of police time.
