This footage from a CCTV camera shows the moment a driver hits a man as he walks over a zebra crossing.
The shocking clip shows the victim, 61, being knocked over and tossed upwards like a rag doll. He lands on the road with cars coming to a halt near him.
Police have appealed for witnesses after the incident at about 6.30pm yesterday, in St Peters Road, Highfields, Leicester.
The video also shows pedestrians rushing to the aid of the injured man, while other drivers stop to help him.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment where his injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
A five-door silver hatchback believed to be involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.
Sergeant Jim Purdie said: “This was a particularly nasty incident witnessed by a number of people.
“The area where it happened would have been busy with vehicles and pedestrians.”
