An appeal against the destruction of a dangerous dog in Church Gresley which caused injuries to a child has been delayed.

David Gallagher, 32, of Salford Way, Church Gresley, is due to appeal against the destruction of his dog, Miko.

Gallagher previously admitted being in charge of a dog, namely an Alsatian-Rottweiler crossbreed, when it was dangerously out of control and injured a child, in Salford Way, Church Gresley, on May 24.

The child later required stitches. Magistrates ordered Miko to be destroyed unless an appeal is lodged within 21 days.

Gallagher later lodged an appeal which was due to be heard last month. It will now be heard by Derby Crown Court on July 27.

Gallagher was made the subject of a 12-month community order with 50 hours unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £300 compensation and £85 court costs.
