A driver has died after his lorry overturned in Uttoxeter, West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10am, today, Thursday, August 31, on the A50 westbound near to JCB Services World Parts Centre, at Beamhurst.

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service were on the scene, as well as a Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Another lorry driver stopped and tried to assist the other driver. He was joined by police officers.

"Ambulance staff arrived shortly afterwards, but sadly it quickly became clear that nothing could be done to save the driver in the overturned lorry and he was confirmed dead at the scene. The second lorry driver was treated for cuts and abrasions to his right arm but was discharged on scene."

Both lanes of the road were closed following the crash, and police have said it will remain closed for at least a few more hours. Drivers are being advised to seek out alternate routes.

Traffic has been queuing up on the A50 up to B5030 Ashbourne Road on the Little Chef roundabout.

Officers from Staffordshire Police's Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene and will be investigating the circumstances around the incident.
